Cream Legbar
The Cream Legar is a beautiful looking chicken that lays distinctive blue-ish eggs.
The Cream Legbar is an autosexing heritage breed developed in the UK during the 1930s by crossing Brown Leghorns, Barred Plymouth Rocks, and Araucanas. They are prized by backyard chicken keepers for their striking crests, friendly personalities, and consistent production of sky-blue eggs.
Key Breed Features
- Sky-Blue Eggs: Unlike brown or white layers, Cream Legbars carry the blue-egg gene inherited from Araucana ancestry, making them an essential choice for colorful egg baskets.
- Autosexing at Hatch: Female chicks hatch with distinct dark "chipmunk" stripes down their backs and sharp eye-stripes, while male chicks are much lighter with a pale, washed-out blotch on their heads.
- Alert & Foraging Skills: Their active nature and upright stance make them adept at free-ranging and avoiding ground predators, though they require secure fencing as they are lightweight and capable fliers.
- Distinct Crest: They feature a soft feather tassel behind their single red comb, giving them a stylish, recognizable profile.
They are colour sexable at hatch with the females clear dark chipmunk and the males dusky light chipmunk.
